The latest airing of Star Worlds’ Kofee with Karan featured Bollywood hunk John Abraham in an interview that is bound to rank as one of Karan Johar's most forthright and daring tete-a-tetes to date. Abraham, handsomely dressed in a semi-formal white long-sleeved shirt and light blue pair of tight-fitting jeans, kept his host on the brink with his mischievous smile, naughty mind and witty jibes. Johar played along; fanning the steam with every opportunity that sizzled his way and eventually delivered another sensational hour of small-talk and gossip to households across the country. Was the audience prepared for what lay in store?
A Sizzling ‘Hot’ Introduction. Introduced him as “the sexiest man in the movies today” and someone who had “shed many of his inhibitions and of course many of his clothes”, host Karan Johar, welcomed John Abraham onto the sets of Koffee with Karan. Johar began by inquiring if Abraham had forgotten his jacket, to which the latter replied, “No, this is the way I dress and I enjoy the space.” Clarifying his use of the word ‘space’ he added with a smirk on his face, “I love the space of wearing less and sometimes practically nothing”. When asked by Johar if his buttocks got more importance at one time, the super-model turned actor replied by admitting that it was true that his body got more importance at one point of time but clarified that he wasn’t a self-obsessed person by nature. He also mentioned that there was a ‘lot to be seen’ in Dostana 2.
Bipasha Basu When asked about his relationship with Bipasha Basu, John was straight in his response, stating that “I’d rather leave it at speculation very honestly and..I’m tired..I’m tired of this speculation and without sounding cliché, I’m tired of the private life being spoken about so often and I’d rather make my moments here with you on the show far more exciting out of that. And so, I’d rather not address this issue at this point of time and…it’s private and I’d like to keep it that way.”
John Abraham on Alternate Lifestyles Abraham, in conversation with Koffee with Karan host Karan Johar, came out strongly in support of gay rights. He even went to the extent of indicating that he would be flattered if another male were to hit on him. Johar, seemingly impressed with the Bollywood’s star progressive attitude, listened attentively with a broad smile on his face. The two discussed freedom of choice and preference before landing at the doorstep of Abraham’s pad, the hot topic of their next discussion.
A Sensual Home Karan Johar referred to John Abraham’s home as a “sexual house”. Abraham could not agree more and seemed quite proud of the fact that he lived in “a bachelors’ pad” that was full of excitement. Stating that his home had a “spa feel” to it, he went on to add that his family helped design it, much to Johar's surprise, and threw in some spice by describing his not-so-private shower arrangement.
The Mysterious Parallel Life Johar’s attempt to tease Abraham over a mysterious side to the latter’s life paid no dividends. Abraham’s smile only widened and created more ammunition for him to get the better of his host. Casting aside Johar’s suggestion that his right and left hand had no clue what the other was up to, Abraham clarified that he had nothing more than a simple life that included an outing to the gym and a shower at the end of the day before sinking into bed in a pair of boxers. He also mentioned how he’d been stalked by a thin laser-light every time he’d settle down for dinner in front of a glass curtain that made him visible to stalkers from nearby buildings.
On Salman Khan and a Bunch of Actresses John Abraham seemed pleased to inform his host that an ongoing tiff with Bollywood giant Salman Khan had finally come to an end. He expressed relief in light of the fact that he could do without unnecessary problems and underlined this by stating, “I’m not a confrontational person”.Speaking of actresses Sonam, Deepika and Katrina, Abraham mentioned that he admired all of them in some way and refrained from being overtly critical. Realizing that this wasn’t creating enough fire, Johar reminded Abraham of Kareena Kapoor's reference to him being “expressionless”. Abraham, still smiling, cast it aside and mentioned that he had met her at a gathering called by Shahrukh Khan and that they spoke about the possibility of working together at some point of time in the future.
A Segment for the Girls and the Rapid-fire Round Before heading into a commercial break prior to the very popular Rapid-fire round, Karan Johar ran a recording of girls who had asked Abraham a slew of questions. Abraham patiently listened and answered after each question was thrown at him. When asked about who he would rather kiss on screen, he played it safe by pinning it all down to the demands of the script. Taking him completely off-guard was the next about how many girls had checked his strength. “I’m stumped”, he said, a look of embarrassment on his face. The next question was a bomb and while it is not possible to repeat in print (for obvious reasons) it prompted the actor to reaffirm his commitment to caution. The Rapid-fire got off to a witty start with Abraham shooting off mischievous one-liners to everything Karan Johar threw at him. When asked about how good he was in bed, he replied regretfully that he wasn’t up to standard because he always ended up breaking the beds. When asked to choose between buttocks and brains, he chose the former, adding that brains could not be put on the front-page of a magazine. The host also tried to put him in a spot by asking him to choose between Salman and Shahrukh, which one he thought was the clan of all seasons. Abraham laughed and asked Johar why the latter was so clannish. He also commented on divorce by stating that it was unfortunately a fashion and a reality. At the end of it all, Johar scored him an 8 out 10 and happily handed over the coffee hamper.
A Whole Lot of Love from the Fans In true Koffee with Karan style, the show ended with a recording of what the fans had to say about John Abraham. Some referred to him as a ‘chick magnet’, some glorified his abs; a woman expressed her desire to be left alone with him on a private beach; a fan declared him to be the best and so on. Interestingly, and one wonders if this crossed Abraham’s mind, not one of them seemed to be enthralled about his acting skills. Is this all that John Abraham will be remembered for?Nevertheless, as much as it was a very bold episode and one that might have left a number of parents regretting having allowed their kids to tune-in, the show was full of light-hearted humor, a whisk of gossip, camaraderie and the customary close with the signing of the famous coffee mug.
